Currency & Banks
|
The Maltese Lira (Lm), often referred to as the Maltese pound, is divided into 100 cents and is presently Malta's legal currency. However the majority of hotels, shops and restaurants also accept payment in the main international currencies and international major credit cards.
Banks, Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) and exchange bureaux can be found all over the Maltese Islands. Banks are normally open until early afternoon from Monday to Friday, and until mid day on Saturdays.
Malta will be changing its currency on the 1 January 2008 when the Euro currency will become the legal tender currency in Malta. By adopting the Euro, Malta will become part of the Eurozone.
