Bank of Valletta p.l.c.
Bank of Valletta (BOV) was formed in 1974 and its banking
origins date back to 1809 with the setting up of the Anglo
Maltese Bank.
In 1992, BOV became the first public company to be listed
on the Malta Stock Exchange when 51.21% of BOV's equity
was held by the Government of Malta, 14.55% was held
by Banco do Sicilia and the remaining 34.24% was held by
the general public. In 1995, the Government sold a further
stake when it offered 12,000,000 shares to the public,
thereby reducing its shareholding in BOV to 25.23% - that
the Government still retains to date. Currently the other large
shareholder is Capitalia S.p.A with a stake of 14.55% which
it took over from Banco di Sicilia S.p.A in June 2006.
BOV has 40 branches and agencies in Malta and Gozo as
well as a network of representative offices in Australia,
Canada, Italy, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt.
